“Success isn’t always about greatness. It’s about consistency. Consistent hard work leads to success. Greatness will come.”

This morning, I almost skipped my mini-exercise routine. I was tired. I felt sorry for myself. And honestly, I just didn’t feel like it. Then a story came rushing back to me—one that stopped my excuses in their tracks.
Years ago, I heard about an elderly man who walked into a gym and turned heads.
He was in his early nineties—yet his body was lean, powerful, and incredibly strong. His chest was broad, arms defined, legs like tree trunks. His back was solid, yet supple. Even his white hair carried a kind of youthful energy, matched only by the twinkle in his steely blue eyes and the vibrance of his spirit.
Someone asked him his secret.
He smiled and said,
“Over 70 years ago, I made a promise to m...

One of the vivid memories I have of my Grandma Natzke, as I was growing up, was her joy of playing the game dominoes. During the course of my childhood, she attempted to teach me several times how to play. Although I never acquired her love of the game (nor do I think I remember how to play it), each time I see someone play or speak about dominoes, I get a warm memory of my grandmother.
Several years ago, I was introduced to a video on You Tube that continues to bring forth my warm thoughts about dominoes, albeit in a much different way. In fact, I was so taken with it that I now include it as part of my keynote talk. It is called Domino Chain Reaction
In it, a man who looks like...

As I was hesitating to begin my daily mini-exercise routine this morning because I felt tired and sorry for myself, I was reminded of a story I heard many years ago.
An elderly man who seemed to defy aging walked into a gym.
In his early nineties, he still possessed a strong and lean frame with a powerful chest and biceps and triceps a teenager would be jealous of.
His legs and his back were as solid as tree trucks, yet flexible and supple. A full, albeit thinning, head of white hair still donned his head, and he lived with a vibrancy of someone a fifth his age with a bright smile and a twinkle in his steely blue eyes.
When asked what his secret was for his amazing physical vitality, he matter-of-factly stated,
"I made a ...

How many times in your life have you said you will finally get to something that you have decided is important to complete when you “feel like it”? I know I have.
My weekly project list can be littered with things I have noted as important enough to have put my attention towards; but have remained incomplete. While some of our mundane tasks do not bring with them a penalty for their incompletion, the problem I see is we often apply this way of thinking to the things we have identified as being the most important in our lives to complete.
The phone call we need to make, the conversation we need to have, the project we need to complete, the book we want to write, the nutrition or exercise regimen we know we need to begin, all get put off until we “feel like” starting them.
